Sydney will be overrun with revellers Friday night with a smorgasbord of major concerts and events happening across the city.

British singer Ed Sheeran will play a sold-out show at Accor Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park tonight, with more than 85,000 people predicted to attend.

Parking at the venue has already sold out, with authorities urging ticketholders to plan ahead and take public transport to and from the venue.

“Significant delays are expected on roads approaching the precinct, particularly during the already busy Friday evening peak. Fans are strongly urged to catch public transport to avoid the traffic delays,” NSW Transport said in a statement.

“Express and limited-stop trains to Olympic Park will run regularly from Central and Western Line stations to get you to the concert, with frequent return services running to get you home each night. From Olympic Park station, the stadium is a short 10-minute walk away.”

Sheeran, who is expected to hit the stage at 8.15pm, is also playing at the stadium on Saturday night in yet another sold-out show.

It’s not the only popular event happening in Sydney this evening, with thousands set to flock to ‘Live and Proud’ at The Domain, which Kylie Minogue is headlining at 7pm. Charlie XCX and Jessica Mauboy are also on the line-up.

Punters are also being urged to get public transport to the precinct.

Over at Allianz Stadium at Moore Park, the Super Rugby is kicking off its first round of the season, with the Waratahs playing the Brumbies to a packed crowd at 7.35pm. The stadium fits up to 45,500 people.

NSW Transport said light rail services to Moore Park would be running frequently, as it encouraged sports-goers to avoid the roads.

It’s just the beginning of a busy events period in Sydney, with British megastar Harry Styles playing back-to-back sold out shows at Accor Stadium on March 3 and March 4.

More than 70,000 fans are estimated to be attending on each night.
