In the entertainment industry, likability is almost as important as talent. Many of the world’s most popular celebrities have achieved their level of success because people like and can identify with them. However, in a world full of people who pretend for a living, it should come as no surprise that things aren’t always what they seem. Over the years, celebrities who were once thought of as kind and welcoming, have been revealed to be anything but. Many times, these celebrities crack in the pressure of the spotlight and accidentally reveal their true colors by snapping on a fan or at the media. While, some have been able to repair their reputation, others have not been so lucky. Here are ten celebrities who are much meaner than you think.
10. Julia Roberts
Julia Roberts was once viewed as one of the sweetest actresses in the business. However, in 2014, Roberts revealed a another side of herself that left her fans – and her family – in a state of disbelief. When Roberts’ half-sister, Nancy Motes, committed suicide in 2014, Roberts delivered a eulogy that many was deemed “harsh” by many in attendance. According to a source, Roberts stated: “that Nancy’s … gone and not coming back. Julia said that, as her sister, she just wanted to ‘wring’ her neck because she didn’t wait to see the joy that comes with the morning.”

9. Mike Myers
Mike Myers, best known for playing the title character in the Austin Powers film series, is often viewed as funny and laid back. However, many in the industry claim that Myers is difficult to work with and can be downright mean. In fact, many cite his nasty attitude as the reason behind his disappearance from Hollywood.

8. Christian Bale
In 2012, reports began surfacing that Christian Bale, well-known for his role as Batman, was actually more likely to ruin someone’s day than save it. According to Harrison Cheung, Bale’s former publicist, Bale did not appreciate being approached by fans in public and would “lecture little girls about being rude and intrusive until tears streamed down their faces, and their parents tugged them away from our table.” Cheung also claims that working with Bale was so terrible that he has since been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

7. Jennifer Lopez
Over the years, many fans have viewed Jennifer Lopez as sweet and down-to-earth. Most recently, as a judge on American Idol, Lopez is often kind and understanding. However, J.Lo may be a better actress than most people think. In 2012, news broke that Lopez blatantly ignored a flight attendant who offered her a drink during a flight. According to the flight attendant: ““I just said, ‘What can I get you to drink?’ But Jennifer refused to even acknowledge me. She turned her head away and told her personal assistant, ‘Please tell him I’d like a Diet Coke and lime. She wouldn’t even look at me. It was sad, she seems so sweet in her movies.” Unfortunately for Lopez, this incident isn’t the only thing that’s hurt her reputation. In 2012, a maid was fired after asking Lopez complained that she didn’t appreciate being asked for her autograph.

6. Cameron Diaz
Cameron Diaz, may be one of Charlie’s Angels; however, her behavior is not always angelic. In 2014, during the premiere of the film Sex Tape, media outlets reported that Diaz’ behavior was rude and “disgusting.” A guest in attendance stated: “Cameron was as unfriendly as can be and it was really disappointing…she also refused the fans telling them, ‘If I did it for you I’d have have to do it for everyone’ before storming off.”

5. Robin Thicke
In 2014, singer Robin Thicke revealed a sensitive (and desperate) side when he released an entire album in an attempt to win back the love of his estranged wife, Paula Patton. However, in 2014, Thicke also found himself on Star Magazine’s list of “Hollywood’s 20 Meanest Celebrities” which noted that perhaps Thicke’s mean and disrespectful behavior was the reason he lost Patton in the first place.

4. Kate Gosselin
Over the last few years, reality TV star Kate Gosselin has earned herself quite the negative reputation. Despite her innocent looks, Gosselin is said to be very mean – to everyone, including her eight children. During her show, Kate Plus 8, Gosselin has often been seen being mean and overly competitive with her children. Several viewers have been critical of Gosselin’s behavior and have questioned her skills as a parent.

3. Meryl Streep
In 2012, reports surfaced that award-winning actress Meryl Streep may not be as nice as many people think. Streep’s neighbors at her Connecticut residence, shared: “We do call her the ‘nasty lady’ because it fits. People see her on TV at the Academy Awards gushing about her latest Oscar, but she’s two-faced when it comes to interacting with the locals here. She doesn’t even want to know your name.” People in the industry have also alleged that Streep can be very difficult to work with, noting: “Meryl is very cutthroat and blatantly mean,” a source tells Star. “She’s rude and snarky on set, especially to up-and-coming people who have always idolized her. She will roll her eyes at them, or point out mistakes to intentionally embarrass them.”

2. Beyonce
Beyonce is perhaps the most well-known and well-respected entertainer of her generation. As queen of the Beyhive, Beyonce has amassed millions of loving fans, and has created a reputation that depicts her as generous, loving, and patient. However, over the years, several reports have surfaced which indicate that Beyonce may not be the sweet southern belle she is often made out to be. In fact, in 2013, reports surfaced that Beyonce’s rude behavior resulted in her being asked to leave the ancient pyramids in Egypt.

For most people, it is impossible to believe that talk show host/comedian Ellen DeGeneres is anything but nice. Although she appears to be kind and easy-going, several people who have worked with her directly have revealed that DeGeneres is “secretly mean.” Reports have indicated that DeGeneres may be a bit of a control freak who acts out when things don’t go her way. A source who claims to have worked on DeGeneres’ talk show stated: “While she acts like she’s the sweetest woman in Hollywood, Ellen is actually cruel and cranky to nearly everyone around her..She’s a monster.”
